Restoration

As part of the design team, WBS completed the 100% design set of plans and specifications for the restoration component of this this complicated and challenging project that included several phases of permitting, design, and construction. Fundamental concepts for restoration emphasized biotechnical engineering, including salvage and re-use of on-site materials (sod, organic matter, willows, conifers), balanced cut and fills, elimination of imported non-native growth media and other manufactured products, and enhancement of natural succession in part through improvement of wildlife habitat. Construction of the Pilot Channels was completed in 2020, which WBS monitored for success throughout the summer of 2021. Restoration was completed for 12 acres of new wetlands in 2022, followed by oversight of plant establishment in 2023, with completion of the plant establishment work in 2024.
