Steamboat Creek, Bella Vista Subdivision

This reach of creek was constructed in in 2006 as mitigation for the adjacent Bella Vista subdivision, for which WBS provided the revegetation specifications. In 2015, nine years after construction of a new channel WBS was contracted to conduct additional vegetation surveys to determine success of the project and compliance with permits. WBS conducted extensive vegetative cover surveys and analysis and determined that thresholds had indeed been surpassed, new wetlands and wildlife habitat had been created, and a successful project completed, the only one if its type in the Truckee Meadows. We were contracted again in 2019 to repeat the surveys. In 2020 we were contracted to conduct Noxious weed surveys as a final condition in the original 2005 permit, in Corona/Cyan’s efforts to obtain their Notice of Termination. We found and mapped extensive stands of Lepidium latifolium (perennial pepperweed, aka tall whitetop) and Tamarix ramosissima (salt cedar) and developed a weed management plan. We continued our surveys and mapping and revisions to the weed management plan through the spring and summer of 2021. WBS also oversaw the weed control work.
